From pole to Tetra

In order to illustrate a permanent quest for unique apparatus and new show codes, we are always open to innovating acrobatics, especially in the development of new figures. Our « worldwide » ambition is an incitation to invite in Paris performers from different culture and traditions. Regarding a classical apparatus, it is always fascinating to question it : the chinese pole, already well explored individually as well as collectively since many years, has still some secrets and appears as a rich potential.

The 37th edition of the Festival Mondial du Cirque de Demain has been a perfect occasion to present an act produced by the the Chinese acrobatic troupe of the province of Hunan. The apparatus used by the five performers in Paris has been conceived in Bruxelles five years ago.

Whitin a research and creation workshop initiated in June 2011 by the l’Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Arts Visuels de la Cambre, option de Design Industriel, and the Ecole Supérieure des Arts du Cirque de Bruxelles, students from both schools have been confronted to the positive tension which can be built between an apparatus and an acrobatic body. From this really rich meeting, amazing objects, between apparatus and sculpture, have been created, notably the Tetra, imaginated by Pierre Emmanuel Vandeputte, based on the chinese pole technique. This tridimensional support is articulated around a solid piece on the floor, able to carry three poles without any cable and offering a real mobility to the complete structure.

This Tetra has been introduced in Paris for the 37th edition of the Festival Mondial du Cirque de Demain.
